Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 2012, dramatizes the final months of Abraham Lincoln’s life and his effort to secure passage of the Thirteenth Amendment abolishing slavery. Written by the playwright Tony Kushner and drawing in part on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals, the film starred Daniel Day-Lewis in an Academy Award-winning performance as Lincoln and received twelve Oscar nominations. This official companion volume, written by David Rubel with forewords by Spielberg and the producer Kathleen Kennedy and an afterword by Kushner, documents the making of the film alongside the history behind it, richly illustrated with production photography and archival material.
