Second enlarged edition of this collection of speeches. Octavo, original cloth, tissue-guarded frontispiece of Coolidge. Presentation copy, boldly inscribed by the author on the half-title page, “To William F. Prindle With regards, Calvin Coolidge Aug 1920.” Very good in the rare original dust jacket which is in good condition with chipping to the extremities. Rare in the original dust jacket and signed.
Have Faith In Massachusetts includes documents, among them a telegram to Samuel Gompers, relating to the 1919 Boston police strike, during which Coolidge “upheld the city police commissioner’s decision to deprive the striking officers of their jobs… [and declared], ‘There is no right to strike against the public safety by anybody, anywhere, any time.’ This [event] brought him national attention and overwhelming reelection as governor that fall” (ANB).
