A superb run of twenty-eight of Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe novels, in first edition and signed by the author. Octavo, twenty-eight volumes, in the original publisher's boards and dust jackets, or wrappers where issued. First editions, nearly all signed by the author, with Sharpe’s Eagle bearing a signed presentation inscription. Each volume is near fine to fine in a near fine to fine dust jacket. An excellent run of the Sharpe works spanning 1981 to 2025, lacking only the short story Sharpe’s Ransom, but with Sharpe’s Skirmish present in both the 1999 and 2000 editions, as well as Cornwell’s own account of the creation and writing of the series, Sharpe’s Story.
The Sharpe novels are Bernard Cornwell’s celebrated sequence of historical adventures following Richard Sharpe, a soldier who rises from the ranks of the British army through the campaigns of the Napoleonic Wars. Beginning with Sharpe’s Eagle in 1981 and continuing across more than four decades, the series carries its hero from India through the Peninsular War in Spain and Portugal to the field of Waterloo and beyond, combining meticulously researched military history with headlong storytelling. Cornwell (b. 1944) is among the most successful historical novelists of his generation, and the Sharpe books, dramatized in a long-running television series starring Sean Bean, remain his best-known and best-loved work.
