Two black and white photographs from circa 1961 of Mickey Mantle and Rogers Maris. Each is inscribed to their 1961 teammate Billy Gardner. The Mantle photograph is signed, “To Billy My Best Wishes, Mickey Mantle.” The Maris photograph is signed, “To Bill, Best wishes to a hell of a nice guy, Roger Maris.” A nice association linking these teammates from the World Series champions. The 1961 Yankees are often mentioned as a candidate for the unofficial title of greatest baseball team in history.

Quarto, bound original full red crimson morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, gilt tooling to the spine with raised bands, gilt ruled covers with gilt title on front cover, top edge gilt. Inscribed by the author, “To Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Doubleday with my best and affectionate regards William Woodward.” The recipient, Nelson Doubleday was a United States book publisher and president of Doubleday Company from 1922-1946. His father Frank N. Doubleday founded the business. Contains sixty-eight engraved plates and three charts. In very good condition.
