Grant, a close friend of Sherman's, went on a "World Tour" after his second presidential term had ended. It has been suggested that Grant collected a few souvenirs for his dear friend while visiting Asia. Rare Javanese kris, commonly used in the pencak silat martial art native to Indonesia, from the collection of General William T. Sherman preserved in his military trunk. Ulysses S. Grant, a close friend of Sherman’s, went on a “World Tour” after his second presidential term had ended. It has been suggested that Grant collected a few souvenirs for his dear friend while visiting Asia. When the Grant family returned from their trip, Sherman greeted Grant at a reunion held by the veterans of the Army of the Tennessee. In good condition, with handle missing. The piece measures 14.5 inches.

Copper engraved, hand-colored map of one of the most decorative maps of the Holy Land of the 17th century. One page with hand-colored borders, the map depicts the tribes of Israel and the route the Israelites took from Egypt through Sinai into Canaan. In the sea there are three sea monsters, one of which has targeted a fishing vessel. The title cartouche is guarded by two dogs, draped with fruit, and flanked by Moses inscribing the ten commandments and a Jewish high priest. German text on the verso. In near fine condition with damp staining to the lower edge.
