Cockburn, tissue-guarded frontispiece. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, "Mrs. John Foord with grateful remembrance Bram Stoker New York 1884." The frontispiece and plates of the second edition were printed from wood engravings by Swain based on the engraved plates of the first edition, several of the illustrations in the text were redrawn and a number of new full-page illustrations inserted.
