"Humanity is the same the world over in whatever garb or colour she may be clothed": Signed Photograph of Mahatma Gandhi
Rare signed photograph depicting Mohandas K. Gandhi in profile with his palms pressed together, inscribed in Gujarati (“[Truth at all costs]”) and signed in English M.K. Gandhi on the image in blue ink. With an autographed letter signed from Amrit Kaur, the secretary to Gandhi and later Health Minister of India, to Sgt. John McAleer, written on Gandhi’s behalf, enclosing the signed photograph and responding to his letter (“…Humanity is the same the world over in whatever garb or colour she may be clothed…”), 2 pages, Poona, 5 March 1946, with envelope; photograph of Gandhi and another in rickshaws being pulled by a ceremonial guard, stamped and inscribed “Bhullo chien Desia” on the reverse; and a newspaper cutting; altogether five items mounted and framed together. In very good condition with the inscription faded. Matted and framed, the entire piece measures 19.5 inches by 16.5 inches. A nice collection with noted provenance.

Rare Mohandas K. Gandhi autograph, signed at the height of the struggle for Indian Independence. Signed by Gandhi, “M.K. Gandhi 28-12-38 Segaon-Wardha.” Eight miles from the city of Wardha, the Indian village of Segoan became the site of Gandhi’s Sevagram Ashram, established in 1936 when Gandhi was 67 years old. Gandhi renamed the site Sevagram, meaning “village of service”, and resided there until his death by assassination in 1948. In near fine condition. Double matted and framed with a large photograph of Gandhi. The entire piece measures 21 inches by 16.5 inches.

Rare autograph land grant signed by the founder of the Province of Pennsylvania, William Penn, as the first governor of Pennsylvania. One page, script on vellum, the document is dated June 4, 1684 and grants a tract of land in the county of Philadelphia to one of the earliest Quaker colonists to settle in Philadelphia county, John Longworthy. Signed by William Penn at the conclusion of the document. Retaining the paper seal. In very good condition. Rare.

Mother Teresa and Chancellor Kohl met on July 13, 1986 at Mother Teresa’s home in Oggersheim. Kohl gained a reputation for his strong commitment to European integration and French–German cooperation. He was also a dedicated ally of the United States and supported Reagan’s policies in order to weaken the Soviet Union. He has been described as “the greatest European leader of the second half of the 20th century” by both U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. In fine condition. Double matted and framed. The blessing in elaborate script reads, “Most Holy Father, Margaret, Katherine, Regina, John, Leo and Charles Lougrhan, humbly prostrate at the feet of Your Holiness beg one special blessing.” Signed by the pope at the conclusion, “Pope PP. Rare original woodblock-print diploma from the 1970 Polish Sacrosong Music Festival. Signed by Pope John Paul II (born Karol Józef Wojtyła), “Karol card Wojtyla.” The famous Polish Sacrosong Festival was established in 1969 to preserve Catholic identity during the Cold War, future pope Cardinal Karol Wojtyla was a major patron of the festival, featured vocalist, and appeared in a full-length feature album, Pope John Paul II At The Festival Sacrosong, produced and distributed in more that 30 worldwide networks in 1979. Rare autograph letter signed by and entirely in the hand of French physician and Nobel Laureate Albert Schweitzer. One page, text in French. The letter is addressed to Miss Mary Hebe Degler of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and reads in part, “Thank you for very much for the beautiful photographs. The are very natural. All is well at the hospital but the number of hospitalizations increase with each year. Best Regards, Albert Schweitzer.” Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope post dated December, 27, 1960. In fine condition.
