Rare autograph note collection in the hand of the Father of the Nation of India, Mahatma Gandhi, written at the height of the struggle for Indian Independence. The collection includes two autograph notes, two autograph letters, and three autograph postcards with Gandhi's "Blessings" inscribed at the conclusion of each. The postcards are postmarked May 27, June 26, and July 25 1926. Gandhi took leadership of the Indian National Congress in 1921 and led nationwide campaigns to ease poverty, expand women’s rights, and, above all, achieve Indian independence from British rule. Rare autograph letter signed by and entirely in the hand of French physician and Nobel Laureate Albert Schweitzer. One page, text in French. The letter is addressed to Miss Mary Hebe Degler of Lancaster, Pennsylvania and reads in part, "Thank you for very much for the beautiful photographs. The are very natural. All is well at the hospital but the number of hospitalizations increase with each year. Best Regards, Albert Schweitzer."
