First Edition of Eleanor Roosevelt's A Trip to Washington with Bobby and Betty; Inscribed by Her to her Grandson

First edition of this early work by the First Lady. Octavo, original cloth. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “To Bill from his loving grandmere who is also the author Eleanor Roosevelt Xmas 1935.” The recipient was Roosevelt’s grandson William Donner Roosevelt, son of Elliot Roosevelt and grandson of the author Eleanor Roosevelt. A Trip to Washington with Bobby and Betty is one of the more uncommon books by Roosevelt, and one that is not often found signed or inscribed, especially with such a nice association. In near fine condition. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.

Lengthily Inscribed by Eleanor Roosevelt on the half title page, “Be kindly in your judgment for you know it was written under difficulties! Your devoted E.R.” An uncommonly warm inscription from Roosevelt, most likely presented to a close friend of family member. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Illustrations by Fritz Kredel. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.

First edition of Eleanor Roosevelt’s first book, published the same year Franklin Delano Roosevelt won his first presidential election. Octavo, original cloth, with illustrations by Manning de V. Lee. Signed by Eleanor Roosevelt on the front free endpaper. In good condition with some spotting to the cloth. First editions are rare, signed copies exceptionally so, this is the first example we have seen.
