Conley, You will please forgive one for my inability to reply to your letter earlier. As you may have noticed I have been wandering all the time. I am at present at Thithal leaving Bombay on 24th Oct for Bengal. I am afraid therefore that we cannot meet before the … Your serv MK Gandhi 25 4 25 Tithal.” The postcard measures 5.5 inches by 3.5 inches. In near fine condition. Rare and desirable.

First South African edition, early printing of this classic autobiography, which has went on to sell over six million copies worldwide. Octavo, original black cloth, cartographic endpapers, illustrated with photographs. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page (translated from Afrikaans to English), “To Lieutenant Colonel Jan de Wet, Compliments and Best Wishes to a competent and experienced pilot NMandela 10.5.95.” This was signed on the first anniversary of Mandela’s inauguration as President. Additionally signed by fellow Nobel laureates Desmond Tutu and F.W. de Klerk. Desmond Tutu was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984 for his efforts in resolving and ending apartheid. In 1993, Mandela and de Klerk were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in ending apartheid. After the first universal elections in 1994, de Klerk became deputy president in the government of national unity under Nelson Mandela, a post he kept until 1996. In 1997 he resigned the leadership of the National Party and retired from politics. Fine in a near fine dust jacket.

Octavo, original illustrated boards, pictorial endpapers, designed and illustrated with engravings by John Farleigh. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the half-title page, “To Eleanor and Theodore Roosevelt this Visiting Card after a memorable day at Government House, Manila from Charlotte F. Shaw and G. Bernard Shaw 9th February 1933.” Mr. and Mrs. George Bernard Shaw stopped at Manila on a round-the-world cruise where they were invited to lunch with Theodore Roosevelt Jr., the eldest son of Theodore Roosevelt, and his wife Eleanor Butler Alexander-Roosevelt where they enjoyed lunch and Shaw assisted in editing one of Theodore’s reports to the war department. Laid is is a small copy of a selection of pages from Eleanor Butler Alexander-Roosevelt’s 1959 autobiography ‘Day Before Yesterday’ which describes the visit in detail and also mentions the occasion upon which they received the current inscribed volume in the mail after the Shaw’s visit. In near fine condition. In the original glassine which is in very good condition. Rare and desirable with exceptional provenance.
