OCLC locates only 11 copies of this work. Scarce.

Finely bound example of this timeless children’s classic. Octavo, bound in full red morocco with gilt titles and tooling to the spine, gilt ruling to the panels, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, illustrated by John Tenniel, tissue-guarded frontispiece. With a fore-edge painting depicting a portrait of the author and two scenes from the book. In fine condition with the original cloth covers adhered to the versos of the front and rear panels.

Original ink and watercolor painting by American illustrator Hilary Knight. Titled, ‘Silver Bangles Thick and Thin’, the painting depicts ‘N. Emily’, a character Knight created to embody a typical Neiman Marcus customer for 24 double-page fashion spreads published in The Book, Neiman Marcus’ monthly magazine for two years in the late 1990s. In fine condition. Double matted and framed. The entire piece measures 27.5 inches by 19 inches.
