William Eggleston's Guide was the first color photographs exhibition presented at The Museum of Modern Art. The book and show inspired controversy when it forced the art world to deal with color photography. The art criticism this inspired was potent as it was a medium scarcely taken seriously at the time. Eggleston's Guide presented a sense of familial status, in the same vein of a family album, but it possessed an artistic slant that transcended the content of the vernacular domain.
