First edition of the author’s first book and the first English novel to be published by an East African. Octavo, original orange cloth. Lengthily inscribed by the author on the front free endpapaper, “Nyokabi called him. She was a small, black woman, with a bold but grave face. Ngugi wa Thiong’o Irvine 27th April 2004.” The quotation is from the first line of this novel. Very good in a dust jacket that shows some chipping to the front and rear panel. Jacket design by Brian Russell.
