Mankiewicz's 1955 novel, Trial, won the Harper Prize and was adapted into a film of the same name that year, directed by Mark Robson and starring Glenn Ford, Dorothy McGuire, Arthur Kennedy and Juano Hernandez. Kennedy won the Golden Globe for best supporting actor for his performance as Barney Castle.
