Large framed signed photograph of Theodore Roosevelt sitting outside Sagamore Hill, the family home in Oyster Bay, New York. Inscribed by him, “Inscribed for Frank S. James with the best wishes of Theodore Roosevelt, September 20th 1917.” Toned silver dry-plate photograph, signed in pencil below by the photograph studio. Matted and framed. The photograph measures 8.5 inches by 11.5 inches. The entire piece measures 14 inches by 17 inches.

On September 20th, 1917, Theodore Roosevelt began a tour of the western United States giving a series of speeches on “Americanism and the War”. Upon departure from Sagamore Hill, Roosevelt stated to the press: “Whatever may have been our judgement in normal times we are convinced that to-day our most dangerous foe is the foreign language press. Professional pacifists should be regarded as traitors to the great cause of justice and humanity. The only peace is the peace of overwhelming victory” (Bishop, 436).
