First Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer All Technicolor edition of Baum’s most famous Oz book, the basis for one of the greatest films in cinema history. First printing with the gilt titles to the spine and printer’s imprint to the copyright page (Bienvenue & Schmidt, pg 13). Octavo, original cloth with gilt titles and black labels to the spine, pictorial endpapers featuring photographs from the film. Illustrated with 8 tipped in color plates and numerous doutone plates and in-text illustrations by W. W. Denslow. Near fine in the rare original dust jacket which is in very good condition.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest films in cinema history and based on L. Frank Baum's bestselling classic, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's 1939 American musical fantasy film The Wizard of Oz was one of the earliest films to use Technicolor and was nominated for six Academy Awards including Best Picture. Gone with the Wind was the ultimate winner of the Best Picture category, but The Wizard of Oz did win two other categories: Best Original Song for "Over the Rainbow" and Best Original Score by Herbert Stothart. According to the Library of Congress, it is the most seen film in movie history.
