First edition of Shula’s autobiography. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “To Ray Mears best wishes, Don Shula.” The recipient Ray Mears was the legendary men’s basketball coach for the University of Tennessee Volunteers. A few pages with underlining from Mears (which gives a nice insight to his thoughts and interests) , near fine in a fine dust jacket. Jacket photograph by Al Satterwhite.

Don Shula was a professional football coach and player best known as the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, the team he led to two Super Bowl victories, and to the only perfect season in the history of the National Football League. He was previously the head coach of the Baltimore Colts, with whom he won the 1968 NFL Championship. Shula was drafted out of John Carroll University in the 1951 NFL Draft, and he played professionally as a defensive back for the Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Colts, and Washington Redskins.
