"The way to wealth is as plain as the way to market. It depends chiefly on two words, industry and frugality; that is, waste neither time nor money, but make the best use of both": Rare Edition of Benjamin Franklin's The Way to Wealth
Rare edition of Benjamin Franklin’s The Way to Wealth, one of the most famous pieces of practical moral advice in early American literature. Tricesimo-secondo, original light blue paper wrappers over a sewn binding. In very good condition with chipping and a few small losses. Housed in a custom half morocco slipcase and folding chemise.
The Way to Wealth, by Benjamin Franklin, is one of the most famous pieces of practical moral advice in early American literature. First published in 1758 as the preface to the final edition of Poor Richard’s Almanack, the work gathers together many of Franklin’s well-known proverbs on industry, frugality, and self-discipline. Presented as the speech of a character named “Father Abraham,” the text distills Franklin’s philosophy that diligence, thrift, and the prudent management of time and money lead to personal independence and prosperity. Widely reprinted and translated, it became one of the most influential statements of the virtues associated with the emerging American ideal of self-reliance and economic success. This 1807 edition was printed at Walpole, New Hampshire for Preston Merrifield, an early American printer, binder, and bookseller who later served as town clerk of Windsor, Vermont.
