The Tower.

"Whatever is begotten born and dies. Caught in that sensual music all neglect monuments of unaging intellect": First edition of William Butler Yeats' The Tower

The Tower.

YEATS, William Butler [W.B.].

Item Number: 110654

London: Macmillan and Co. Limited, 1928.

First edition of what is generally considered to be Yeats’s single most important collection. Octavo, original publisher’s elaborately decorated cloth with gilt titles and tooling to the spine and gilt decoration to the front panel after Thomas Sturge Moore’s engraving of Ballylee. In near fine condition. Small bookplate to the pastedown. A very sharp example.

Yeats' first major collection of poetry published following his award of the 1923 Nobel Prize in Literature, The Tower contains many of Yeat's most influential and recognizable poems, including Leda and the Swan, Sailing to Byzantium, Nineteen Hundred and Nineteen, and Among School Children.
