American economists and professors of economics at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business Merton Miller and Eugene F. Fama were both awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences, Miller in 1990 along with Harry Markowitz and William F. Sharpe and Fama in 2013 with Robert J. Shiller and Lars Peter Hansen. Fama is best known for his empirical work on portfolio theory, asset pricing, and the efficient-market hypothesis and Merton for co-authoring the Modigliani–Miller theorem (1958), which proposed the irrelevance of debt-equity structure. This book, in various versions, has been the main text for both professors' finance courses taught at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business.
