Octavo, original cloth, gilt titles to the spine and front panel, frontispiece portrait of James with tissue guard. In very good condition.

Dictated during the autumn of 1914 without the use of any notes, James' The Middle Years chronicles the years of his mid-life. The book covers the early years of his residence in Europe and his meetings with writers such as George Eliot, Alfred Tennyson, and James Russell Lowell.
