First edition of Mills’ story detailing the everyday life of a foxhound. Octavo, bound in full red straight grain morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, gilt ruling to the front and rear panels, inner dentelles, top edge gilt, marbled endpapers. With seven full-page engraved illustrations including frontispiece portrait of John Leech Mills with facsimile signature. Original cloth bound at rear. In fine condition.

Born in Budapest in in 1816, Joseph Zaehnsdorf apprenticed to and obtained employment with several of Europe and London's most prestigious 19th century bookbinders. In 1842, he founded his own firm which became one of the most prestigious book binderies in the world and remained independent until 1983 when it merged with Sangorski and Sutcliffe.
