Her fourth collection of short stories, The Golden Apples is the chronicle of a town she calls Morgana, Mississippi as told through a series of viewpoints which operate as a unified whole. Lettie Ransley noted in her review of the book, "Allusion and metaphor hang as thick as Spanish moss in Welty's prose."
