Item Number: 26793

Edinburgh: J. Cochran and Company, 1743.

First edition of the first book devoted to golf. Thin octavo, bound in contemporary calf. In very good condition with some light browning to the text. A cornerstone of any golf library. Rare and desirable.

The Goff describe a round played at the five-hole links at Leith by two golfers: "Pygmalion" (the author, "small is his size, but dauntless is his heart") and "Castalio" (modeled on Alexander Dunning, an Edinburgh bookseller, "great Castalio his whole force collects and on the orb a noble blow directs").
