Item Number: 91765

New York: Brewer, Warren & Putnam, 1932.

First edition of Earhart’s account of her childhood, her fascination with aviation, and her life through her 1932 flight across the Atlantic. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated throughout. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “To Admiral Susan in appreciation of a week end Amelia Earhart.” With an original photograph of Earhart with the recipient opposite the endpaper. The photograph is of George P. Putnam, “Admiral” Susan Hammond, Amelia Earhart, and Paul Hammond. In very good condition with some rubbing to the spine. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. A nice example with noted provenance.

The Fun of It covers Earhart's life through May 20-21, 1932, "when Miss Earhart, alone in a Lockheed Vega monoplane with a single Wasp engine, negotiated 2,026 miles through storm and fog from Harbor Grace, Newfoundland, to a cow pasture on the outskirts of Londonderry, Ireland. The flight set a transatlantic record of 14 hours, 56 minutes… and stirred such public adulation that she confided, 'I'll be glad when the zoo part is over'" (ANB).
