First edition of Roosevelt’s work on the deer family. Octavo, original green cloth with gilt titles to the spine and front panel, illustrated with 7 maps and 25 engravings including frontispiece with lettered tissue guard by Carl Rungius and others, index. In fine condition. A very nice example.
A diligent and skilled writer, Theodore Roosevelt wrote on a wide range of topics and genres, including history, autobiography, nature, hunting, memoirs, and editorials. In each of his works, the subject dictated the style, ranging from strong and exuberant to introspective and observant. In his foreword to the present volume, Roosevelt states, "This volume is meant for the lover of the wild, free, lonley life of the wilderness, and of the hardy pastimes known to the soujourners therin."
