Rare first edition of The Constitutions of the United States which precedes the publication of Bill of Rights as the First Amendment and is the first printing to contain the Constitution of Vermont. Octavo, bound in three quarters calf over marbled boards, gilt titles to the spine, raised bands. Contents include the Constitution of New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Vermont. Additionally included are the Charter of Rhode Island, Declaration of Independence, Federal Constitution, and a pre-ratification printing of the Bill of Rights (Sabin 16097). In near fine condition. An exceptional piece of Americana.
