Finely bound example of Charlotte Mary Yonge’s early novel. Octavo, two volumes bound into one in full vellum with morocco spine labels lettered in git, elaborate gilt tooling to the spine, gilt Greek key ruling to the front and rear panels, gilt central Unicorn motif to the front panel, gilt turn-ins and inner dentelles, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. In very good condition.

English novelist Charlotte Mary Young published over 160 works throughout her long career. Her work was widely read and respected in the nineteenth century, and among her admirers were Lewis Carroll, George Eliot, William Ewart Gladstone, Charles Kingsley, Christina Rossetti, Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and Anthony Trollope.
