Anthony Trollope's The Chronicles of Barsetshire; finely bound

The Chronicles of Barsetshire.

TROLLOPE, Anthony.

Item Number: 101589

London: Champan and Hall, 1879.

Finely bound set of Trollope’s complete Chronicles of Barsetshire series. Octavo, six novels bound into eight volumes with gilt titles and ruling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, engraved frontispiece to each volume. In very good condition.

Set in the fictional English county of Barsetshire and its cathedral town of Barchester, Trollope's famed Chronicles of Barsetshire consist of 6 novels: The Warden (1855), Barchester Towers (1857), Doctor Thorne (1858), Framley Parsonage (1861), The Small House at Allington (1864), and The Last Chronicle of Barset (1867), the last of which was Trollope's own favorite. Nathaniel Hawthorne praised the novels for their realism, "as if some giant had hewn a great lump out of the earth and put it under a glass case, with all its inhabitants going about their daily business"; – a view widely echoed elsewhere.
