Item Number: 96770

New York: Harcourt, Brace and Company, 1936.

First edition and advance review copy of the final volume in Dos Passos’ U.S.A. trilogy. Octavo, original cloth. With the publisher’s Review Copy stamp dated August 6th, 1936 to the front free endpaper. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket photograph by Sheldon Dick.

Comprising the novels The 42nd Parallel, 1919, and The Big Money, Dos Passos' U.S.A. trilogy weaves together the life stories of twelve characters through four distinct narrative modes incorporating fragments of stream of consciousness writing, song lyrics, and newspaper clippings. The fragmented narrative style of the trilogy later influenced the work of both British science-fiction novelist John Brunner and existentialist Jean-Paul Sartre.
