Henry James was particularly interested in the short narrative form of fiction and produced dozens of what he called the "beautiful and blest nouvelle". Published in 1903, The Better Sort contains eleven novellas including Broken Wings, The Two Faces, Mrs. Medwin, The Beast in the Jungle and The Papers.
