Rare uncorrected proof of the first edition of this marvelous play in two acts. Thin quarto, original wrappers and comb binding. In very good condition with a spot of toning to the front and rear panel, an inscription to the top edge of the front panel, a miniscule closed tear to the fore edge of the rear panel, a bookplate to the front pastedown. Housed in a custom cloth clamshell case.
The satirical two-act stage play, 'The Beauty Part,' opened on Broadway on December 26, 1962 after "at least" ten rewrites of the script. The original performance starred actors Bert Lahr, Alice Ghostley, Charlotte Rae, and Larry Hagman, each of whom appear by name in the casting list of this proof. As the play opened during the 1962-1963 New York City newspaper strike, the play could not be advertised in print and few reviews appeared. Despite this, Lahr and Ghostley were both nominated for Tony Awards for their performances, and 'The Beauty Part' has retained its cult status as a celebrated piece of media.
