First edition of this classic work of American travel literature. Octavo, original illustrated cloth, frontispiece with tissue guard, illustrated througout with 113 photographs, 2 folding maps at rear. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper, “May this volume speak to you of pleasant day. John T. Faris March 22, 1924.” In very good condition with some rubbing and wear. A nice example of early American natural history and travel writing.

 

American editor, author and Presbyterian minister John T. Faris wrote extensively about his personal interest in travel throughout the United States. Trained in the publishing field, Faris became the business manager of The Occident, San Francisco, the Presbyterian newspaper founded by his father. He was later ordained a Presbyterian minister and became the managing editor of the Sunday School Times in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His body of work includes novels in both the fields of ministry and natural history. Seeing The Far West includes surveys and photographs of the parks of Colorado, the border of Arizona, Yellowstone Park, and the heart of the Sierra Mountains.
