Roald Amundsen Airship Norge Signed Photograph.

AMUNDSEN, Roald.

Item Number: 111072

Rare original photograph of the airship Norge, the vessel that completed the first trip of any kind to the North Pole: the Amundsen-Ellsworth 1926 Transpolar Flight. Boldly signed by expedition leader Roald Amundsen on the mount. Framed. In near fine condition.

Norwegian polar explorer Roald Amundsen led the first expedition to traverse the Northwest Passage by sea from 1903 to 1906, the first expedition to the South Pole in 1911, and the first expedition to reach the North Pole in 1926 aboard the semi-rigid Italian-built airship Norge. The expedition was Amundsen's brainchild. The airship was designed and piloted by Umberto Nobile and financed by American explorer Lincoln Ellsworth and the Aero club of Norway.
