First edition of this Civil War memoir. Octavo, original cloth, illustrated with photographs. Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper in the year of publication, “To Doctor H.C. Yarrow, when you glance over these records of a misspent life try to remember the days when we were young and happy and our friendship of forty years standing. Sincerely yours, James Morris Morgan. Washington, D.C. May 4th, 1917.” The recipient, Dr. Henry C. Yarrow was a surgeon, ornithologist, herpetologist and naturalist. From 1861 to 1862, he was the Assistant Surgeon, 5th PA Cavalry, then in Virginia, then appointed Acting Asst. Surgeon. Also included is a signed cabinet card photograph pf the author laid in. With the recipients bookplate on pastedown, in very good condition. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box.

Recollections of a Rebel Reefer tells the story of the life of James Morgan, a member of the Confederate Navy in his youth and whom later became a farmer in South Carolina. It includes a narrative of his service on the Confederate cruiser Georgia, 1863-1864.
