Octavo, original cloth, frontispiece portrait of Johnson. Signed by Lyndon B. Johnson on his Presidential bookplate affixed to the pastedown. In near fine condition.

The Public Papers of the Presidents series, compiled and published by the Office of the Federal Register, National Archives and Records Administration, began in 1957 in response to a recommendation by the National Historical Publications Commission. Noting the lack of uniform collections of messages and speeches of the Presidents before 1957, the Commission suggested the establishment of an official series in which Presidential addresses, writings, and public statements could be made available to the general public. Volumes covering the administrations of Presidents Hoover, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Clinton, and George W. Bush are included in the Public Papers series.
