Portrait of a Professional Golfer (1964) is an illustrated memoir and photographic profile by Arnold Palmer, the Latrobe, Pennsylvania-born golfer widely regarded as one of the most charismatic and consequential figures in the history of the sport, whose "go for broke" playing style and magnetic public presence transformed professional golf into a major American spectator sport in the early years of televised coverage. Running 110 pages and richly illustrated with black-and-white photographs documenting Palmer's career through the early 1960s, the volume was published at the precise apex of his competitive dominance, a period during which he had won four Masters titles, a United States Open, and two British Opens, and had attracted the devoted following of fans known as "Arnie's Army" who trailed him from hole to hole at tournaments across the country. Palmer won 86 championships between 1954 and 1987 and was inducted into both the PGA Hall of Fame and the World Golf Hall of Fame.
