George Cruikshank’s Points of Humour (1823–1824), issued in two series, is a collection of comic illustrations accompanied by brief explanatory texts that showcase the artist’s mastery of visual wit and social observation. Designed to highlight everyday absurdities and eccentricities, the plates transform commonplace incidents into humorous tableaux, blending caricature with narrative illustration. The work demonstrates Cruikshank’s ability to capture subtle gestures, expressions, and situations that reflect the humor of ordinary life, while also hinting at broader social commentary on manners, class, and human folly.
