First edition of Orwell’s classic dystopian novel. Octavo, finely bound in full black morocco. All edges gilt, marbled endpapers, raised bands, gilt titles to the spine, gilt ruled to the front and rear panel. In fine condition.

Written while Orwell suffered severely from tuberculosis and published shortly before the disease claimed his life, the novel is a work “of hectic, devilish, claustrophobic intensity… nightmarish in the telling” (Clute & Nicholls, 896). In 2005, the novel was chosen by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005.
