First edition of the first published collection of Jefferson’s writings, an impressive four-volume work edited by his grandson, Thomas Jefferson Randolph. Octavo, 4 volumes, bound in three quarters calf over marbled boards,  engraved frontispiece portrait after Gilbert Stuart in Volume I. In very good condition.

Volume one was written by Jefferson at age 77, and includes a journal kept by him while Secretary of State during Washington’s administration. "The rest consists exclusively of a voluminous correspondence, ranging from 1775, after blood had been spilt in Boston, to June 1826, only ten days before his death" (Sabin).
