Letters to Kennedy.

GALBRAITH, John Kenneth; Edited by James Goodman.

Item Number: 2992

Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 1988.

First edition of this compilation of letters which gives the reader a firsthand look at the working relationship between a president and one of his close advisers, John Kenneth Galbraith.  Octavo, original half cloth. Association copy, warmly inscribed by the author in the year of publication, “For Barry Zorthian well loved friend and the best journalist I ever knew. John Kenneth Galbraith.” The recipient was a U.S. government spokesman and American diplomat during the Vietnam War.

"A most unusual combination: significant historical documentation on India, on Vietnam, and on the conduct of foreign and economic policy, joined with inside political gossip, all in the context of a fascinating friendship between two notable figures, all told in witty and engaging letters. I don't suppose there has been anything quite like the Galbraith- Kennedy relationship since Voltaire and Frederick the Great" (Arthur Schlesinger, Jr.).
