First edition of Peyrefitte’s best known work. Octavo, bound in three quarters morocco over marbled boards, gilt titles to the spine, raised bands. One of 1999 copies, this is number 912. Inscribed by the author on the half-title page. In near fine condition.

Peyrefitte's best known work, Les amitiés particulières, centres on an intimate relationship between two boys at a Roman Catholic boarding school and a priest's will to destroy their budding relationship in an effort protect them from homosexuality. The plot is understood to be largely autobiographical, won Peyrefitte the Prix Renaudot, and was made into the 1964 film adaptation, Les amitiés particulières, directed by Jean Delannoy.
