Autographed Signed Letter from Judge Learned Hand to President John F. Kennedy, dated May 25, 1961, suggesting Judge Irving Kaufman to be appointed to be a circuit court judge. Irving Kaufman was the chief judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York, and was awarded the Presidential medal of Freedom in 1987 by President Reagan “for his exemplary service to our country, his work as chairman of the President’s commission on organized crime and his multifacted efforts to promote an understanding of the law and our legal traditions.” Matted and in the original framed. The entire piece measures 11.5 inches by 13.5 inches.
