Inscribed by Owens in the lower left corner of the photograph, “To James, My Best Always, Jesse Owens ’36 Olympics.” Double matted and framed. The photograph measures 9.5 inches by 7.5 inches. The entire piece measures 16.5 by 21 inches.

American track and field athlete Jesse Owens became a four-time Olympic gold medalist in the 1936 Olympic Games. Owens specialized in the sprints and the long jump and was recognized in his lifetime as "perhaps the greatest and most famous athlete in track and field history" (Litsky, 1980). Owens was ranked by ESPN as the sixth greatest North American athlete of the 20th century and the highest-ranked in his sport.
