Quarto, bound in full morocco with gilt titles and tooling to the spine in six compartments within raised gilt bands, marbled endpapers, illustrated by Kay Nielsen with 24 tipped-in full color plates with captioned tissue-guards mounted on stiff grey card and several illustrations throughout the text. In near fine condition.
Published at the height of "the golden age of illustration" and Nielsen's first gift book, In Powder and Crinoline contains 24 elaborate full-color illustrations depicting scenes from Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch's retellings of Minon-Minette, The Twelve Dancing Princesses, The Man Who Never Laughed, John and the Ghosts and The Czarina's Violet.
