Rare illuminated Arabic Qu’ran with text in manuscript and three illuminated miniature paintings. 16mo, bound in full morocco with gilt decorated bifolium, all pages double gilt-ruled, decorated with three full-page hand-painted and illuminated miniature paintings, text in red and black. In very good condition. Rare and desirable.

 

The central religious text of Islam, the Quran, also romanized Qur'an or Koran, is widely regarded as the finest work in classical Arabic literature. Slightly shorter than the New Testament, it is organized in 114 chapters according to length of surahs which are subdivided into verses. It is believed to be Muhammad's most important miracle, a proof of his prophethood, and the culmination of a series of divine messages starting with those revealed to Adam, including the Tawrah (Torah), the Zabur ("Psalms") and the Injil ("Gospel"), and ending in Muhammad's revelation, the Quran.
