JOYCE, James. Introduction and notes by Richard Ellmann.

Item Number: 110855

London: Faber and Faber, 1968.

First edition of Joyce’s short story, rumored to have existed for decades and only released for publication in 1968. Octavo, original cloth. Fine in a near fine dust jacket with a small closed tear to the front panel.

The existence of a short work by Joyce entitled Giacamo Joyce was known for some time, with extracts from it published in Ellmann's biography of Joyce. But not until the present volume did the owner of the manuscript release it for reproduction. It is a short piece, concerned with Joyce's attraction to a young Jewish girl who was among his pupils in Trieste and is regarded as an important work during a time when Joyce was facing the end of his youth.
