Third edition of Henri Babinski’s Practical Gastronomy. Quarto, in the original wrappers bound into full cloth with black morocco spine label lettered in gilt, pictorial endpapers. In near fine condition. Bookplate to the pastedown.

Early 19th century mining engineer and gastronomer Henri Joseph Séverin Babinski first published Practical Gastronomy under the alias of Ali-Bab in 1907. Originally only 314 pages, the book contained detailed recipes in addition to texts on the history of the culinary arts. It was soon extensively expanded to the point that its 1928 edition reached over 1,000 pages.
