Friedrich August von Hayek Autograph Letter and Personal Document Collection.

HAYEK, Friedrich August von [F.A.] [Laurence Hayek].

Item Number: 114208

Rare collection of documents, letters, photographs, speeches, and invitations collected by Hayek throughout his career, with an autograph letter signed by him presenting the collection to his children. Dated March 3, 1965, the letter reads, “Dear children, Here is a selection from the presentation at the celebration of mother’s birthday which I pity you were not there! It is even worse of a pity that I shall not see you though I shall be in and out on the day before Ann’s birthday. I must fly to New York on the 10th and have arranged to stop over at London for 36 hours to attend the British Academy Dinner on the 8th. But I shall telephone on the 9th to learn how you are all doing. Love, Father.” Included in the collection are a large format portrait of Hayek, a ticket to the 1974 Nobel Laureates Reception, a photograph of Hayek meeting with Ronald Reagan, a photograph of his son Laurence meeting with George H.W. and Barbara Bush, several letters including four signed by Hayek’s children, papers, and programs, and a cancelled check signed by Hayek. In near fine condition.

Austrian-British economist and philosopher Friedrich August von Hayek shared the 1974 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences with Gunnar Myrdal for his "pioneering work in the theory of money and economic fluctuations and penetrating analysis of the interdependence of economic, social and institutional phenomena." Best known for his defense of classical liberalism, his account of how changing prices communicate information that helps individuals co-ordinate their plans is widely regarded as an important achievement in economics.
