After he was rejected from both New York University and City College, Woody Allen turned to a professional writing career, at first for television and comedians. His first screenplay, written in 1964, was the very popular What's New Pussycat? He has also written, directed and starred in over 60 films to date, notably Annie Hall, which was the winner of the Academy Award Best Picture in 1997, Interiors, Stardust Memories, and Manhattan which the Village Voice hailed as "the only truly great American movie."
